Combating Spring Allergies

Spring is in the air...

All the lovely blossom is on the trees and guess what - you have started sneezing, your eyes are watering and you can't breathe. But don't panic, there are ways to lessen those allergies without resorting to antihistamines.

Food allergies

Food allergies can very often be at the root of many skin conditions, seasonal allergies and digestive disorders. Constant exposure to foods we are allergic or intolerant to can cause inflammation in the digestive tract, which then leads to damage. As 70% of the immune system is in the digestive system, this damage eventually leads to over sensitivity of the immune system, which makes us more sensitive to airborne allergens. Therefore by cutting out the allergic foods and repairing the digestive system we can reduce the sensitivity to airborne allergens. Also, dairy intolerance can lead to excess mucous and that runny nose.

Liver congestion

The liver is responsible for processing and removing toxins from the body. If the body is overwhelmed with toxins the liver will not be able to remove them all and they start to recirculate in the body and build up. One of the things that needs to be removed by the liver is histamine, which is the substance released when an allergen is detected. This substance is what causes the adverse reactions we get to pollen, and these reactions will persist if the histamine is not removed. Simple ways to help your liver are to reduce or eliminate coffee, alcohol, processed and take away foods, and to increase fresh fruit, vegetables and water.
